Oct 25, Bugs will get into the bark, but this generally doesn't matter much if you're milling lumber.
Once the bark falls off or becomes very loose the wood may tend to blue, starting at the ends. I've milled logs a few years old that were fine, and I've milled those Estimated Reading Time: 5 mins. I mill at one inch by twelve to keep it simple. The customer buys the shrinkage.
Unless you have a specific order for other sizes or thicknesses, 1x8 to 1x12 are the most marketable. I mill 1x4 battens from the narrower boards.
I sell it forper mbf. Feb 10, The smaller building off to the right is made of ponderosa pine cut from dead standing trees that were still fairly"fresh." It's up to code, in a county with rather stringent code requirements.
It's a few years old now and no sign of rot -- though it stays fairly dry and is oiled.
